Cup Coasters ~ Recycling Whipped Cream Container Lids

These were so cute and creative, I told the kids I had to put them on my S.C.R.A.P. blog. After we cleaned out each kitchen cupboard, we found items we didn't need - whipped cream container lids.

The kids raided my craft supplies and made these cup coasters for the summer. Each summer, when they are all home from school, they tend to go through a lot of dishes. This time, they promise to keep their own cup on their personalized cup coaster, for each day. This way we won't go through so many cups. Our 8 year-old made the one with the felt and buttons.

I have to warn you though, if you have a cat, the chenille stems are not a good idea (ha ha ha!) Days after these were made, our cats devoured the one on the bottom photo. By morning, the chenille stems were all over the house.

Fabric yo-yos ~ Recycling furniture store fabric samples

There is no end to what you can make with fabric yo-yos.  I made a small table cover with several using a pattern on-line for making placemats.  Can you imagine making an entire quilt coverlet with these?   This project took me about 10 hours.  Here are links for helping you make fabric yo-yo's and the past links for where this fabric came from.
